Zoot Suit & Prakas pass away
December 5, 2005
Two great trotters died this past weekend in Europe. Zoot Suit died December 3 at Menhammar Stuteri in Sweden, his home for more than 25 years. The son of Nevele Pride was 32 years old. Prakas--who was standing stud at Stall MS Diamanten, near Munich, Germany--had to be humanely destroyed after a severe bout of colic at age 23.
Zoot Suit was a heat winner in the 1976 Hambletonian for Vernon Dancer. He was bred and owned by the late Norman S. Woolworth's Clearview Stable and was a top stallion in Sweden. He sired 2003 Elitlopp winner From Above and European trotting star Zoogin.
Prakas was the 1985 Hambletonian winner and Trotter of the Year that season, and was the first of three Hambo winners for trainer Per Eriksson. He was bred by Hans Enggren and won 14 of 29 starts and also won the World Trotting Derby and the Breeders Crown, earning nearly $2 million. He had stood stud at Hanover but was sold in 1992 to German interests.
