Windylane Hanover's Brother Wins in Sweden
March 2, 2007
On March 1 at Aby Racetrack in Gothenburg, Sweden, the three-year-old colt Willesden Hanover made his first career start a winning one as he won by a nose against a field of older horses.
Willesden Hanover is the younger brother of millionaire world champion Windylane Hanover. He is by Self Possessed and is the last foal from his dam Willow Run Gracie who unfortunately suffered a fatal paddock injury shortly after delivering the foal in 2004. He later sold in Harrisburg for $40,000 to Sweden's leading trainer Kari Lahdekorpi who also owns the colt.
Lahdekorpi leads all Swedish trainers in wins and money earned with more than twice the money than his nearest competitor so far in 2007. During the last five years Kari Lahdekorpi has won more than 1,000 races most of them with horses that came from other trainers but now the Finnish native has changed his philosophy and is buying yearlings and so far it seems to be working very well.
On Friday his three-year-old Andover Hall colt Gershenson became the first winner for his sire in Sweden as the $30,000 Harrisburg purchase won at Kalmar in his first try.
