Post 1--ARTIOLOGY

Trainer: Tom Harmer
Driver: Tony Morgan
Owner: Michael Polansky
Breeder: Perretti Farms, NJ

*Fourth in the WCP elim*

A son of Artiscape, this bay colt was bred by Perretti Farms (NJ) and is out of the Dragon’s Girl dam Doc’s Girl. Michael Polansky of Loudonville, KY bought him for $177,000 at the Standardbred Sale in Harrisburg, PA. Unraced as a two-year-old, the colt was sent to the Tom Harmer Stable for 2004. He proved best at Maywood Park in only his second start with a 1:57.2 win on May 5. He lowered his mark to 1:53 flat (:26.4 last quarter), coming from ninth, some 16 lengths off the leader, at Balmoral in mid-June. Won a pair of conditioned races in August at Hawthorne, the first in 1:53.1 and the last a lifetime best 1:51.3 clocking. Posted a 1:54 flat victory in a September conditioned race at Maywood before his seventh place finish in Lexington’s Bluegrass.

"Artiology is a nice colt," Tony Morgan noted of Artiology's fourth-place finish in the Windy City elimination. "Tom (trainer Harmer) has done a lot of work on this horse in terms of rigging to get him to where he is right now. I always thought this colt had a lot of talent, but it was getting him to use in the right way that is the key. This past week he was still making some rigging changes with him. The one thing about this colt is that he always gets home well and with the right kind of trip I see him doing pretty well in the final."

Post 2--TARVER HANOVER

Trainer:  Dan Berry
Driver:  Pat Berry
Owner: Country Boy Stable, Punxsufawney, PA
Breeder: Hanover Shoe Farms Inc., PA

*Third in WCP elim*

This son of Ball And Chain is the sixth foal of the dam Tarport Herald, who earlier had a pair of sub 1:52 pacers, including her two previous offsprings that earned over $300,000, and yet this bay colt ended up as a $6,000 bargain buy at the 2002 Adios (PA) Sale for Country Boy’s Stable. A four-time winner in 13 freshman starts, he notched his maiden win in 1:58.2 at The Meadows and lowered it to 1:53.4 in a conditioned pace at Colonial Downs. As a three-year-old lowered his mark to 1:55.2 in Woodbine’s Count B Series in his second season outing in January. Went to the Meadowlands and posted back-to-back February triumphs in legs of the Junior and Senior Trendsetter Series. Finished second, beaten a half-length in Pennsylvania Sire Stake at the Meadows in May. He was sidelined for four months before racing at Mohawk. He then shifted to Harrington before coming to Chicago.

"I was happy with the way my horse raced in the final tonight," Pat Berry said. I took a shot at Georgia Pacific and if I'd stayed in the two-hole I would have been second, but I really wanted to give this horse a chance. I'm happy with the draw and will be looking for a similar effort out of him in the final."

Finished second in the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes Final. At three, raced wide throughout in his Berry’s Creek Final fourth place finish. Paced to a stakes record of 1:49.4 in a Burlington division. "Randy (traine Bendis) told me to race the horse the way I saw fit,"driver Andy Miller said of his colt's performance in the Windy City elimination. "I just let him float out of there and it really wasn't a problem for him to get to the top. He's a very classy horse to drive and has a lot of gears to him. He dug in when those horses came at him near the wire. He's just all racehorse and really a nice horse to drive."

"We'll do the best we can to get him well this week, but if he's not 100% coming into the final, then he won't be there.
