Windsong's Legacy won the $393,300 Kentucky Futurity for three-year-old trotters in two straight heats on Saturday afternoon at The Red Mile, becoming the first Trotting Triple Crown winner since Super Bowl in 1972. Piloted by trainer Trond Smedshammer, Windsong's Legacy won his first heat from post 11 in 1:54 by a length over Rocky Balboa and Yankee Slide.

In the second and final heat Windsong's Legacy crossed the finish line three lengths ahead of the field in 1:53. Justice Hall was second and Rocky Balboa was third, followed by Coventry and Al Dente Hanover. Cantab Hall, Con Man and Sky Watch scratched after the first heat.

Owned by Ted Gewertz of New York, Patricia Spinelli of New Jersey and Frederik Lindegaard of Norway, Windsong's Legacy became the first trotter since Super Bowl, who was trained and driven by Stanley Dancer and owned by the late Norman Woolworth to win Trotting's Triple Crown. Besides Super Bowl, Windsong's Legacy joins Scott Frost, Speedy Scot, Ayres, Nevele Pride, and Lindy's Pride as Trotting Triple Crown winners.

Windsong's Legacy has 10 wins from 17 races lifetime and $1.7 million and is the richest single-season trotting colt ever. The colt will now be retired and will stand stud at a breeding farm yet to be determined somewhere in North America.
