Where Are They Now?

Years pass and famous horses come and go.  Some we remember and some we don't--unless of course, we say, "hey, remember when so-and-so did this or that," followed by "yeah, and remember that one horse, the way he used to blah, blah, blah?"

Well, here are a few names that might jar some memory banks.  While these horses weren't the best of their peers during their racing days, they certainly held their own against some of the top horses of the time. The following four now all make their homes in the United Kingdom, that group of islands that fall across the Atlantic and just to the northwest of Europe.

Handsome Sum...the oldest of the group, competed during the early 1980s, and took a three-year-old record of 1:52.2, earning $281,193 for his connections.  A foal of 1982, the son of Niatross still is standing stud in Wales, at the age of 22.

Raque Bogart...one of the best two-year-olds of his day, is a son of Falcon Alamhurst and a foal of 1986. He took a freshman record of 1:52.1, and went on to earn $453,500. He makes his time as a sire at the age of 18 in England.

Silky Stallone... a son of No Nukes, took a sophomore record of 1:51.3, and paced his way to the tune of $785,323. He served a brief stint as a stallion at Cottonwood Farm in Big Rock, Illinois, before venturing across the pond to stand stud in England.

House Of Cards...one of the younger stallions of the group, took a five-year-old mark in this country of 1:50.2, earning $158,565. A foal of 1995, this son of Dragon's Lair welcomes fillies to his barn in Wales.
