My Boy David Takes Cardinal in World Record Time
Friday, October 14, 2005
My Boy David scooted to a world record clocking of 1:52.4 in Friday night’s $65,000 Cardinal stake pace final for two-year-old ICF colts and geldings. My Boy David’s clocking is the fastest for any two-year-old pacer on a half-mile track.
Even though the 9-5 second choice My Boy David (Andy Miller) left from the five-post while his rival Hot N Sporty (Tony Morgan) had the coveted pole position as the 3-5 favorite, My Boy David shot out of the gate so quick he had the lead by the first turn . . . and he never looked back.
My Boy David took the field to a :27.2 first panel and was able to get a :29.3 second quarter breather with Hot N Sporty sitting in the pocket. When they came out of the third turn Tony Morgan took Hot N Sport out after the leader. The pair raced side-by-side through a :27.4 third quarter and into the last turn. The Homer Hochstetler trained winner though still had plenty left, coming home in :28 flat to post a three-quarter length victory in 1:52.4 for Illinois co-owners Shirley Le Vin and David Riff.
With victories in Friday’s Cardinal and the Governor’s Cup last month at DuQuoin, along with second place finishes in Springfield State Fair Championship and Orange and Blue Super Night stake at Balmoral, My Boy David may have vaulte into lead as the prairie state’s two-year-old freshman division leader. The son of Cole Muffler now sports a first season record of 6 wins, 5 seconds and 2 thirds in 13 starts with $189,999 in earnings
