Mickey Burke

Mickey Burke, a native of Unionville, Pennsylvania, has been involved in harness racing for over four decades and at age 70, was honored as 2006 Trainer of the Year by the U.S. Harness Writer's Association.

Throughout 2006 he battled back and forth with rival Erv Miller for the North American training title, and ultimately, came out on top with 450 winners.

Some of Mickey's stable stars in 2006 included the sophomore pacing colt True North Hanover, who won the Cleveland Classic, the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Final, plus a heat of the Adios and a heat of the Jug Preview. He also conditioned Texas Shootout to win a heat of the Little Brown Jug, a heat of the Adios and the James B. Dancer Memorial Final; and Sandro Hanover--who won a head of the Adios and his division of the Jug Preview.

Burke also conditioned the top three-year-old filly pacer Ideal Weather, who won a division of the Adio Volo as well as three New Jersey Sire Stakes events, finishing second in the Miss New Jersey Final and the NJSS Final. Buck I St Pat was another trotting standout on both the Ohio circuit and the Grand Circuit. His other top charges included the open pacers Maltese Artist and Rob Roy mattgregor--top competitors at The Meadowlands, along with stablemate JK CU Later.

Burke also scored a first when he sent 37 horses postward on August 12, 2006 at six different racing venues.
