MEADOWLANDS RACING
For Saturday, February 19, 2005
Analysis/Selections by: Grey Stable Tony
Race One: $30,000 Claiming Pace (6) GINNY’S FIVE SIX perhaps last was a needed confidence booster after previously drawing some tough posts on the half milers, has done some good work here previously in higher classes (8) IT’S THE PAPER BOY drops after disappointing effort, Sears will probably change tactics and leave (1) NATIONAL ARTCHIVE faded on the front end after setting a pretty good clip, look for him to leave for a trip from the pole (9) WESTERN MONSOON goes in for a relatively low tag after tough race and lack of early foot will not help.
Race Two: $75,000-$100,000 Claiming Handicap Pace (8) BACK OFF makes his first start for Oakes after tiring setting some pretty fair fractions, expect him to be firing out again though (5) TWIN B GAMBIT favorite beaten a head in sharp 26.4 close 3rd over (9) PINNACLE tough trip off the slow half, may chose to leave for position this time (3) LEGAL TROUBLE N we liked him a few weeks ago but just had too much ground to make up, finally draws decent post and may get aggressive.
Race Three: AQUARIUS – 2nd Leg Open 4YO (D) (6) BRANDONS COWBOY a watch list horse for brush in setting fast half (3) SKYDANCER HANOVER didn’t fire last week but Oakes says that he should be his old self this week (2) LEDFORD ENTRY should get a decent price for this talented entry who both come off rare miscues but look ready (9) LIVE OUT LOUD nice ground saving win in Leg 1, probably content to close from this spot.
Race Four: $40,000 Claimer (4) BATTLESHOE BOY finally draws decently after sharp 26.4 close and gets Sears (5) PAIR OF CARDS debuts for Robin Schadt after flashing good early speed (1) SIR WILLIAM WALACE usually noted for his half mile track prowess, versatile horse should be leaving for a ground saving trip (7) JD EASTER MAGIC ambitious class jump after pacing fast 55.1 middle half in fast race for class.
Race Five: Non-winners of $27,500 (8) DAVIDS RAINBOW drops after not being involved in the Invite but can fire out from this spot (5) THREE QUARTER CAM a watch list horse steps up off fast 3rd quarter after parked past the half from post #9 in impressive mile (2) GLORS BOYS a watch list horse for sharp 26.3 final quarter 3rd over in fast last half (6) STREET SIGN flashed some early speed from post #9 but may elect off the pace tactics.
Race Six: $75,000-$100,000 Claiming Handicap (9) WHISPERS SPY classmaster parlayed perfect trip, will have to leave for position (8) MIDNIGHT GAMBIT a watch list horse for going first over in fast last half, may be set up for his late rush with lots of early speed (7) LAUGHING IS AN ART still in top form and reclaimed by Oakes and will be firing (6) FRANCO CATAPULT N couldn’t hack the uncovered route but just may get the ideal trip and return to Brennan.
Race Seven: Non-winners of $10,000 (10) MT. VERNON HANOVER super close off slow half, Manzi will have to try to float him out for early position (5) NICODEMUS N looks too be some stock for top trotting connections, even with scratch sick last week his previous qualifiers were all encouraging (7) DREAM ROCKET seems to be over his breaking problem for now, paced a good second to the impressive Cunning Liar (4) MARINOS BOY is definitely a hard horse to gauge but was Pierce’s choice and does have early speed
Race Eight: $50,000-$60,000 Claiming Handicap (8) DOMINATION a continued watch list horse for going uncovered in fast 3rd quarter, perhaps a better trip soon (2) FESTIVUS all quality starts here, gets post relief and Morrill’s choice of 3 (5) BERLEY the popular grey is our WOW angle horse of the week as he is bumped up (without a win) by Rucker after showing good pace on both ends of the mile (3) ARTS ADVANTAGE Oakes tries his hand on this oft claimed horse, faded after uncovered journey, may try to race him on the front.
Race Nine: $40,000 Claiming Pace (3) FOX VALLEY RAVEN remains sharp closing in 27.2, 3rd over (7) STONE SOUL MICHAEL another Anderson/Banca ship-in looks to be a dangerous closing threat (8) FRANCO TRUBROOKE N Freehold form is not bad facing much tougher, versatile sort can leave. (2) BIG KYLE STYLE sharp 26.4 close off another tough journey.
Race Ten: Non-winners of $15,000 (9) ARTS CAM one of our big plays last week actually drops off pocket trip win off the scratch sick (4) LANDMARK HALL a watch list horse for fast 26.2 last quarter and reclaimed by Silva who has had success with him in the past (7) CAMS FAST GUN Sears’ choice over the #3, when last seen here went uncovered against better (1) PREMIERONBROADWAY good spot for him to wake up with a ground saving trip.
Race Eleven: $100,000 Claiming Pace 4&5-year-olds (6) YANKEE FINALE versatile horse showed very sharp pace on both ends of the mile (2) IRON LEGEND makes his debut in the Lachance barn and has been impressive, double jumps and not certain on how much more improving can be done over Silva (1) KAVA KEY needed last off month break can improve off that effort from the rail with his early speed and Sears (8) WESTERN HOT SHOT second start off the Ryder claim got shuffled from post #1 but did flash some decent late pace.
Race Twelve: $30,000-$33,000 Claiming Handicap Pace (2) IM A CAMEDIAN went uncovered in the fast pace and held rather well (1) MASTEROFHISDOMAIN responded to the drop with a big stretch drive off the fast half aided by the aforementioned horse (5) ESCAPEWITOUTATRACE goes back to Lachance after good close in 27.3 (6) NEVADA YANKEE raced evenly against better at Freehold, drops from troubled journey when last seen here.
Race Thirteen: Non-winners of $10,000 (7) GALLO BLUE CHIP if he cannot beat this field then Ford should not cheapen this great horse and consider retiring him (5) WEST GUN takes the Nestea plunge after ambitious spot in the Presidential and will probably take too much tote action for our liking (9) ITS NOT LUCK showed improved signs of life racing uncovered and holding on well in a fast race on the further dropdown (1) O NARUTAC PAT keeps Sears off encouraging qualifier closing in 26.3 against some good horses.
