Analysis/Selections by: Grey Stable Tony
Race One: $40,000 Claiming Pace (10) ALERT MOTORING N could not keep up in Activator’s big mile but drops again and Dube should have him firing right out. (6) CAMBERT good 3 wide effort off dying cover, should get a decent cover trip from this post. (2) REGENT HALL good speed attempt and Campbell should have firing early again in search of the pocket trip. (9) QUICK AND DEADLY ships in from Canada to the Silva stable, this closer had not shot trying to close on the speed favoring Woodbine surface in last, gets saddled with poor post and may need an acclimating trip and may be overbet by that fact.
Race Two: $100,000-$125,000 Claiming Handicap Pace (2) THEMISTOKLES had his 3-race win streak broken with ambitious spot in the Open, look for return to form with Brennan back. (7) ART MAKER goes for the hot Rucker stable after huge close in 26.4 off excess cover. (5) MIDNIGHT GAMBIT big effort from post #9, probably returns to familiar closing trip. (8) THREE QUARTER CAM returns after two week absence after scratch sick, huge effort on 4/16 and Oakes has worked this angle before.
Race Three: $40,000 Claiming Pace (10) CAM’S PRIMETIME watch list horse was buried but found room closing sharply in 26.0 in fast last half and should be headed to the front but always an adventure with this horse. (5) WARLOCK APPRENTICE our angle horse of the week was claimed by Cassar, moved up in class without a win, beaten favorite and may improve with 2nd start with lasix. (9) HENSCHKE A another watch list horse for being outside the mile in fast last half but similar journey could be in store. (1) RAKIN N THE BUCKS makes his 1st start for the astute Boudon after being used hard early, Gingras will probably look to sit with him close to the pace from the rail.
Race Four: Non-winners of $15,000 (9) TIBERON beaten favorite closing in 26.4 in fast mile, Morrill should have him out early. (1) AMERICAN FURY Rucker likes to drop and pop these types from series action, has had some tough luck and in latest knocked off stride in the Suslow final, look for Catman to get him out in good position from the rail. (3) O’ROURKE THREE left and sat while no match to the tough Activator. (5) VILLAGE HERO N got a serious speed tightener in last and look for him to come off the pace this week.
Race Five: OPEN (D) (2) CASIMIR CAMOTION returns from the Dan Patch Invitational were he should have gotten up for 2nd but Patrick restrained him because of a problem with the sulky which collapsed shortly after the race, probably be near the front somewhere just a matter of getting him out late. (6) BOULDER CREEK went 3 wide around the tiring Live Out Loud in another sharp performance, likely too see his early speed tonight. (7) LIFE SOURCE returns after not being involved in the Dan Patch, will be firing looking for his pocket trip.
Race Six: BERRY’S CREEK FINAL (D) (5) PATS ALL STAR un-fashionably bred NYSS star did not disappoint us with a good 2nd while no match to Jennas Choice, realistic shot now with the injury to that horse and look for Mike Lachance to utilize his early speed. (8) FOUR STARZ SISCO we were skeptical of him last week because of class issue and post position and guess he simply did not fire due to the off track as 2-1 second choice, the one to fear if he returns to previous fast track form. (4) REALISCAPE still eligible for nw1 but is a watch list horse for 27.0 close in fast last half and gets the services of Ron Pierce. (10) WITH ANTICIPATION paced last half in 54.2 on the off track in fast time and was blocked late, factor if Patrick can get him involved early.
Race Seven: Non-winners of $15,000 (9) DAVIDS RAINBOW sharp 1st over effort after month layoff and has the back class, Mike Lachance should have him out early looking for position. (8) WHODUNIT Manzi bails but gets Ledford, sharp win off the quick brush and crush and Ledford may wish to race him off the pace. (2) ACTIVATOR steps up slightly after dominating effort in nw3, may have to go the uncovered route from here. (7) THE ONE NIGHT PAN flattened off cover in Shu Hanover’s fast race, drops and Gingras may elect to leave.
Race Eight: OPEN 4-Year-Olds (D) (4) TOWN CHAMPION is very sharp and a watch list horse for sharp uncovered effort in fast 3rd quarter losing to the pocket sitting Shu Hanover (6) GEORGIA PACIFIC drops from the Open after pressured fast half in another questionable drive by Campbell (2) BASIL HANOVER tired after brush attempt and Sears may elect to sit with him (3) HOLBORN HANOVER BigM Pace winner last year returns after a couple of qualifiers and useful 1st race back closing decently on the off track at Freehold in fast last half, may need one more however
Race Nine: $50,000-$60,000 Claiming Handicap Pace (3) ARTS REGARDS is bumped up by Hartline after sharp first over score. (7) GINNY’S FIVE SIX is reclaimed this week by McCahey after game effort and may, with Dube aboard, be headed to the front. (10) DAISY’S BOY is feeling good again (at least for the last two weeks) and should be firing out. (2) NORTHERN SUN barn change to back to Remmen and should be a major factor if Campbell doesn’t get over-aggressive.
Race 10: $75,000 Claiming Pace (4) OHOKA LAZER N steps up for Banca off sharp speed effort. (5) TWIN B GAMBIT looked terrible and one of the few that didn’t fire for Oakes but was claimed by Czerman who quickly raises him in claiming price. (6) SIX OF DIAMONDS drops slightly off break from stepping into a wheel, another likely to be forwardly placed early. (9) THE INTIMIDATOR was one of three winners for Rucker last Saturday but Manzi may have a harder time getting near the front with all the speed inside.
Race 11: $40,000 Claiming Pace (4) SAND HILL N reclassified by Rucker after 3 wide trip off tiring cover in fast race. (2) AFTER LIFE was Brennans choice of three, couple of tough trips since the claim. (9) BEST ALWAYS good 27.2 close 4th over but similar scenario may be in the cards. (8) ALL MY STYLE N not shot to close in fast pace in the slop at Freehold in last, drops from previous attempt at the BigM in fast pace. (3) FOREST ELBOW A keeps Cat over the #10, should be out looking for the pocket trip.
Race 12: Non-winners of $15,000 (1) TENNAT IN CHIEF a watch list horse for fast half in two move effort, gets post relief and Gingras stays over the #4 and should be a major player early with his speed score. (7) SILVER FLASH sharp 26.3 close 3rd over but will be at the mercy of the pace. (2) QUICKSILVER SHARK gets free ride in class after sharp covered score. (4) TOO MUCH GUN raced well in first start for Czermmann who quickly puts him into condition race and gets Sears.
Race 13: Non-winnres of $10,000 (3) ORAGAMI ARTIST returns at a dangerous level and major driver change after flashing good speed at the ‘Poke’ cash. (1) TAYLORLANE ACE returns after a couple week off after brake in the Fox Sports final, Pat should have him close from the rail. (8) YACHTING PROMOTION has scored in the past on the ship-in showing early speed. (10) THE GLOBE continues to disappoint, draws further outside and sure to burn more cash.
