*Tonight is the BIG M Harness Handicapping Challenge Qualifier, we are going to look at some anticipated value betting options as much as we can …
Race One: Non-winners $10,000 (D Pace)
(5) O NARUTAC PAT flashed sharp 27.1 close in fast race for class in first race in a month, should improve. (1) DREAM BELIEVER gets some post relief after some decent late foot 4th over on the drop to this condition, look for him to get aggressive. (2) MIRACLE MAN N usually these NZ breds race remarkably well in their first few US starts, earned a good amount of money down under, closed in 27.1 off of slow three quarters in qualifier.
Race Two: $100,000 Claiming Pace
(1) TOO MUCH GUN hard to believe he was a 25k claimer last month, in career form steps up again off sharp 26.0 kicker. (8) MT VERNON HANOVER steps up off another sharp closing effort 3 wide closing in 27.1 and gets the addition of Morrill. (6) NIGHTMAREONELM put in a big uncovered effort pacing 27.3 3rd quarter off the scratch sick. (3) OLIVER CUSTIS debuts in the Czermann barn and gets Sears after tiring in pressured mile.
RaceThree): EXIT 16-W Final (D) Pace
(6) SHATTERED HALO beat Johnny Be Cool N in a FFA at Balmoral on 12/04, tired after getting used from post #10, Campbell returns. (1) BROWN ENTRY - look for both to be positioned well early with FRANCAM firing in attempt for trip behind Master This. (3) RUCKER ENTRY – SILVER FLASH offered sharp late pace first time Morrill. (5) I AM I SAID has closed well in all his starts as a 4 year old, should be handled more aggressively tonight.
Race Four: $40,000 Claiming Pace
(1) REGENT HALL has been on the improve pacing 55.1 middle half last week in fast mile and should be in for an ideal ground saving trip from the rail. (9) GOTTA FEELING raised in price after sharp uncovered effort off slow half, look for him to fire out without a lot of outside gate speed. (3) STONE SOUL MICHAEL consistent closer goes for fifth consecutive place finish, went game uncovered effort in first start here. (2) OHOKA SAINT N improved effort on the drop showing good pace on both ends.
Race Five: AQUARIUS Final (D) Pace
(1) LIVE OUT LOUD did get a nice trip again but a watch list horse for sharp 26.2 close, may not get a decent price on him however and may have to look at our other options. (3) SKYDANCER HANOVER raced better going uncovered in faster last half. (1) MORGAN ENTRY – JK ROYAL FLUSH took last week off but closed well in Leg 1 first time lasix. (7) BRANDONS COWBOY game front end effort against the closing bias, extra points if speed is holding out.
Race Six: Non-winners of $15,000 Pace
(3) ST GEORGE ISLAND has not looked like himself since his race in the Open on 12/11, makes a return to the familiar Harder barn and Dave Miller at a reduced level after a week off. (4) ITS NOT LUCK steps back up after sharp pocket score (10) YULESTAR N returns to the level of his last win on 12/18 but will be at the mercy of the pace. (2) LANDMARK HALL beaten favorite and second time back with Silva.
Race Seven: JUNIOR TRENDSETTER Final (D) Pace
(4) FOUR ONE ONE the grey NY bred has closed well in his two starts, draws an ideal post and looks for the series sweep. (7) ROBIN OF LOCKSLEY was parked the mile and forced a quick third quarter and understandably tired, very dangerous with a trip. (2) JENNAS CHOICE broke as the favorite in Leg 2 but prior was huge parked out effort from post #9 first time lasix. (10) GRYFFINDOR brushed and crushed last week and will take the majority of the betting action but vulnerable from post #10.
Race Eight: $75,000-$100,000 Claiming Handicap Pace
(10) WHISPERS SPY closed in 26.4 on the inside against Cunning Liar, Ledford will be gunning him again. (1) ROMMEL returns after a few weeks off and is ideally spotted. (9) CUNNING LIAR the California shipper surprised us with his gameness off his win at this level last week, move out to post #9 may prove troublesome. (7) LEGAL TROUBLE N can turn things around in good first time off claim barn.
Race Nine: $50,000-$60,000 Claiming Handicap Pace (D)
(10) GLOBAL SCALE one sharp Silva horse we didn’t have in the mix last week but we wont make that mistake again. (6) FESTIVUS all quality BigM starts, paced 26.3 second quarter brush then faced pressure in game mile. (7) BERLEY the popular grey was out the mile then dueled with Festivus and held well on the class jump, may chose to leave. (2) ATLANTIC SUNSET A returns from Freehold and is raised in class off sharp pocket score last start here and can take advantage of post and early speed.
Race 10: OPEN Pace
(7) SAGEBRUSH was a sharp first over in the Invitational on 2/12 and should be closing late but will need a decent pace. (2) JOHNNY BE COOL N got the trip behind Sagebrush in that sprint home in the Invitational, will look to brush and crush. (3) WHOSURBOY no shot in the sprint home last time but should benefit from the shorter field.
Race 11: $100,000 Claiming Pace
(4) ARTS CAM we will continue to back this sharp horse as decent mutual price dictates, Oakes has done a great job in spotting him and this week gets him in with age restricted claimers. (5) OHUBETTERBELIEVEIT not involved from post #10 last week, gets the switch back to Sears and may see some early speed. (2) THE REAL DION got buried but paced 54.3 middle half just to keep up in fast mile. (8) ALL HALL big effort from post #9 last week but lately has been good one week not so good the next, its not so good week.
Race 12: $40,000 Claiming Pace
(1) GINNY’S FIVE SIX one of our top plays last week is upped in class after the sharp pocket win and should be set for similar journey. (6) NATIONAL ARTCHIVE watch list horse goes first time Croghan after brushing past quarter to fast half and holding well on a bad night for speed. (9) FIRST AWAY Rucker raises him off impressive win off the ship in but loses post position and probably race off the pace. (5) ROSANALI N Scurlock bumps him up off back to back impressive closing efforts from post #10 the last effort pacing a 54.3 middle half but that was nearly a month ago.
Race 13: Non-winners of $10,000 (D)
also could be carded as nw of a race in 2005 as field is a woeful 0-37 … (8) JUGULAR gets Sears and exploded home in his qualifier in 26.0 against some decent stock. (1) GALLO BLUE CHIP hung again last week but after some improvement fanning 3 wide, should get aggressive from this spot and should win on class alone, if not, time to say goodbye Mr.’s Scharf and Ford. (9) RAGS NO MORE makes second start of layoff and went evenly in fast pace, has some back class. (6) DAISY’S BOY has provided us with some decent mutuels in the past but has been more inconsistent than usual, major threat here on best and ‘longshot’ Pat Berry.
Bonus Analysis: Island of Capri Final from Pompano Park
Race Eight : ISLAND OF CAPRI FINAL
This race has produced some longshots in years past…
(5) MALTESE ARTIST younger full brother to ARTESIAN tired after some serious speed work putting up some fast fractions, look for him to revert to closing tactics and get the job done off a decent cover flow. (3) SANTASTICS PAN could not catch He Wants It All last week but look for him to leave for the trip behind him again. (1-ENTRY) HE WANTS IT ALL set the fastest mile of the Pompano meet last week (1:50.3) on an open lead and coming home in 54.4, likely done the road mission but he will be seriously challenged this week.
