$200,000 Titan Cup Final at the Meadowlands Fool's Goal wins his third Cup July 2, 2004 by Kimberly A. Rinker
One of the great wonders of the trotting world, Fool's Goal, held on doggedly to win his third Titan Cup Friday night, July 2 at the Big M. Piloted by Jack Moiseyev for trainer Jim Doherty, the nine-year-old gelded son of Armbro Goal pulled first up on the leading Mr Muscleman (Ron Pierce) down the backside and held on to win in a blanket finish in 1:53.2. Cosington (Brian Sears) was second and Elegant Man (Cat Manzi) was third.
"I played the race by ear," Moiseyev said in the winner's circle. "Everyone was leaving out of there so I kind of let my horse settle a bit and then I made my move when I saw that Ronnie (driving Mr Muscleman) was on the lead. My horse was very strong, but in the stretch I was a bit worried with all of those horses coming at him. He didn't waver, though and just kept digging in. He won the race, I was just behind him hollering at him."
Odds On Racing's Dream Lavec raced well for driver David Miller and finished fifth behind the wall of horses on the lead. The victory pushed Fool's Goal's earnings to $2,863,180 and gave him his fifth win of the year in nine starts. This two-time Breeders Crown winner was the 2002 Dan Patch Award winner as Aged Trotter of the Year.
The race fractions were: :27.3, :56.1 and 1:25.
