Time For A Win Takes ISOBA Stake at Maywood

Sent off as the 2-5 favorite in her three-year-old debut Time For A Win didn’t disappoint her many supporters, pulling off a comfortable front-end victory in Monday night’s $19,620 Illinois Standardbred Owners and Breeders Association for second season state bred pacing fillies at Maywood Park. Driver Tony Morgan sent Time For A Win out from the four post at the start of the eighth race feature and the talented daughter of Cole Muffler led at every pole of the 1:57.2 mile on a cold spring night.

Trained by Mark Fransen, who shares ownership of the winning filly with Terry Duffy of Lemont IL, Time For A Win finished one length ahead of Jezzabell Hotspur (Pat Wolf), who enjoyed a pocket trip. Linda’s Rose, who left from the outside eight-slot in the nine-horse field, raced well to be third, beaten two and one-quarter lengths.

“This filly has quick turn of speed,” said Morgan. “She can pace away from fillies and she doesn’t get tired. She can do the work if she doesn’t make mistakes out there. During the mile she paid close attention to other horses, but no attention to me at all. When horses come after her she goes, then when they don’t, she stops. She must have stopped and started a half dozen times but she’s a real big filly with a load of talent.”

Time For A Win was parked out getting command at the :28 flat first quarter. She then took the field to a :57.3 half and a 1:27 flat three quarters before battling a strong win through most of her :30.2 final quarter.

Time For A Win was a four-time winner in nine freshman starts, earning $53,745.

“She was a real natural right out of the box as a two-year-old last year,” Morgan. “In fact I thought she was the best filly in the state early but then she started making mistakes and made some breaks at the start of races.”
