Taser Gun Recovering after Trailer Mishap on Super Night September 20, 2004 By Kimberly Rinker
Taser Gun, who won the biggest race of his career--the $125,000 Dan Patch--suffered a slight mishap on his way back to the barn Saturday night. The 9-year-old gelding slipped coming off his trailer, cutting his lower right hind leg. Trainer Bob Walker shipped Taser Gun to the University of Illinois, where he was sedated. The wound was cleaned and stitched up, and Taser Gun is now recouperating and will be given three to four weeks rest.
"I was planning on giving him a break--although this type of break wasn't how I would have planned it," Walker said. "He can get a little bit rambunctious getting out of the trailer at times, and that's what happened on Super Night. I thought that I'd be spending the night celebrating with my family--never that I'd be at the University clinic with Taser."
Taser Gun now has earnings of $1,086,302--the Dan Patch was his 64th lifetime victory and the first time in his career that he captured a race with a purse over $50,000.
