Isabella Blue Chip Wins Sweetheart Final

August 4, 2006

Isabella Blue Chip captured the $435,000 Sweetheart Final in 1:52.2, a stakes and track record, with driver David Miller at the lines for trainer George Teague, Jr. The bay daughter of Bettor’s Delight paced the mile in 1:52.2, matching the stakes record established by Clover Hanover in 1997.

Speed Date was second with Catch The Show was third by four and a half lengths.

“Going into the race, my plan was if everyone left on the outside, I was going to take her off but if nobody left, I was going to press on,” said David Miller, who also won the 2005 Sweetheart with Lonesome Day. “When I saw Brian [Sears with Catch The Show] leave and get to the front and Cat [Manzi with favorite Me And My Baby] was right there, I wasn’t liking the way it set up. I looked up and she [Me And My Baby] was off stride so I went ahead and moved her then. She felt really strong around the last turn. I asked her and she dug right in. She’s been a good filly since the first time I sat behind her. And she was that way tonight. George [trainer George Teague] brought her along just right.”

Trainer George Teague and his sister, Brenda Teague of Houston, Delaware, co-own Isabella Blue Chip with Only Money Inc. of Hartley, Delaware. They paid $40,000 for the filly who has now banked $264,313.
