Idle Hour Takes Suslow Final

Idle Hour maneuvered around tiring horses and soared down
the stretch to win the $68,900 Robert J. Suslow Final
on Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

Driver Tim Tetrick moved Idle Hour three-wide to get around his struggling entry-mate Major Duke and closed in a brisk 27.2 to catch Bullville Powerful at the wire and win by a head in 1:51.2. The pacesetter, Hands To Yourself, finished a length and three-quarters back in third. Idle Hour paid $2.80 to win.

“He’s a little bigger and stronger,” Tetrick said. “He was a pretty nice colt last year. He paced a lot big the last three quarters. He’s continuing to do that as a three-year old, just doing it a little faster. I got a little worried around the last turn. George [Teague]’s other entry, the horse Brian [Sears] was driving [Major Duke], was struggling pretty good. I didn’t want to have to move that early but I had to or I wasn’t going to catch him, almost didn’t anyway. The colt made up for the ground and did a good job. The last turn I was really worried whether I could catch Yannick [Gingras]’ horse or not. My horse dug in and he knew where the wire was and got up in time. I definitely think he can; the good thing about him is he can get to the house good. He’s got big last quarters. This horse can pace really fast three quarters, the last three quarters of mile. Most of the time they pay us to finish it, do it early. Hope it continues, things have been good between me and George and just hope everything goes well.”

Idle Hour, a three-year-old son of Dragon Again, is two-for-two in his 2008 campaign. With this win he has increased his lifetime earnings to $123,246 for owners Shanika Wesley of Magnolia, Delaware, Shamika Wesley and Teague Inc., both of Harrington, Delaware.
