This year’s Super Night events at Balmoral Park provided harness racing fans with new stake records, big upsets and sentimental favorites finally getting their due. Fourteen events contested Saturday night, September 18 at the Crete, oval saw the connections of pacers and trotters earn just over $1.3 million in purses. Below are the nutshell recaps. $300,000 Orange & Blue Colt Final was taken in the late going by Team Hutch for driver Eric Ledford and trainer Homer Hochstetler in 1:51.4. Owned by Joy and BN Hutchison Jr. of Warrenville, Il., it was the fourth victorty of the season in 13 starts for the son of Sportsmaster. Cheyenne Bodie (Dave Magee) was second, with Kennans Josh (Tim Tetrick) third.
$200,000 Pete Langley Memorial was won in wire-to-wire fashion by Fox Valley Gallant and driver Eric Ledford in stakes record time of 1:51.1. Trained by Seldon Ledford and owned by James Jesk of Lemont, Il., it was the fourth win of the year in 15 starts for the son of Sportsmaster. Live Out Loud (Dale Hiteman) was second, while Carzy Art (Pat Berry) was third.
$125,000 Dan Patch Final was taken by the ageless pacing wonder--Taser Gun--who won the first race of his career with a purse OVER $50,000! Not bad for a nine-year-old who has earned in excess of $1 million. Driven by Andy Miller for trainer Bob Walker and the Cunningham Racing Stable of Medora, Il. The son of Henry Letsgo paced in 1:50.2 for his tenth win of the year in 16 tries. Dashing Diplomat (Tim Tetrick) was second while Honest Lawyer (Ryan Anderson) was third. It was the third Dan Patch Final victory for driver Andy Miller.
$125,000 Ann Vonian Final went to Parkland Powerful who unleased a tremendous kick around the final turn. Driven by Ronnie Marsh and trained by Homer Hochstetler for the Fighting Major Stable, the daughter of Sportsmaster paced to a winning stakes record time of 1:51.1 It was the sixth Super Night Championship driver for Ronnie Marsh. Loyal Opposition (Andy Miller) was second while Sportstalk (Dale Hiteman) was third.
$250,000 Filly Orange & Blue Final was captured by 40-1 longshot Sounds of Silence, giving driver Dave Magee his third Super Night Championship drive of the night. The duaghter of Art's Conquest paced to a 1:53 victory for trainer Tom Simmons and owner Al Johnson of Rockford, Il. Fox Valley Fussy (Tony Morgan) was second and Whata Bizy Body (Tim Tetrick) was third.
$200,000 Grandma Ann Final taken by Undeniably You and driver Dave Magee, who luckily avoided a nasty mishap in the final turn that knocked six horses out of contention. Undeniably You paced to a winning 1:51.3 for trainer Tom Simmons and owners Lowe, Hunt Harness Horses, Benita Simmons and R. Desyllas. Kan Wheel (Tim Tetrick) was second and Aries Conquest (Andy Miller) was third.
$108,000 Su Mac Lad Final went to Customize and Dave Magee, who trotted in 1:56.2 for trainer Dirk Simpson and onwer Bart Cavanagh Sr. of Media, PA. The Wilson Wyoming sophomore gunned down rival Rockome Vic (Eric Ledford) in the final yards. Beerthirty (Tony Morgan) was third.
$115,000 Lady Ann Reed Final went to favorite Fox Valley Flan, who trotted to a new stakes record of 1:55, crushing the previous mark of 1:57.1 set by Vivacious Victory on Super Night 2001. The daughter of Vaporize scored for driver Andy Miller and trainer Erv Miller for the Tanah Merah Farms LLC of Springfield, Il. Sunceraye (Mike Oosting) was second, while Nudy Blue (Tim Tetrick) was third.
Super Night Consolation Winners
Enemy At The Gate wins the $25,000 Pete Langley Consolation in 1:50.4 for Dave Magee (trainer Tom Simmons, owners J Lowe, Hunt Harness Horses, W. Beck, R. Desyllas).
Go Warrior Go scored a minor upset by winning the $25,000 Dan Patch Consolation in 1:51 for Tim Tetrick, trainer Darcy Pletcher and owner Par II.
Sleazebiscuit captured the $29,000 Orange & Blue Filly Consolation in 1:54.1 with Mike Oosting in the sulky (trainer Ken Rucker, owner Engel Stable LLC).
Creative Lass took the $25,000 Grandma Ann Consolation in 1:53.2 for Andy Miller (trainer Erv Miller, owner Ron Michelon & Dad's Legacy).
Letmedoitmyway won the $25,000 Ann Vonian Consolation in 1:51.4 for Tony Morgan (trainer Lloyd Daulton, owner Jean Daulton).
The Long Goodbye scored for Dave Magee in 1:53.2 in the $34,000 Orange & Blue Consolation (trainer John Butenshoen, owners McMaking, Lechner & Schick)
