Stormies Girl Takes Maywood $15,250 Open
April 15, 2005
Stormies Girl led from start to finish in Maywood Park’s $15,250 Open Handicap Pace for fillies and mares in 1:53.4 for driver Tim Tetrick. The 2-1 second choice picked up her third season victory in five starts for trainer Darby Miller and her first on the Chicago circuit-half mile oval for owners J M L Stables (Heathrow, FL) and Ring Circle Stable (Buffalo, NY).
“I wanted to be on the lead and she can get there easily with her gate speed,” Tetrick noted. “She had no problem making the top. She’s a nice mare, especially if she makes the top easily and gets away with a second easy quarter.”

After a quick :27.2 first quarter Stormies Girl got her :29.1 second quarter breather, and then put away the challenges of Lou Annie and Harmony Oaks Gi Gi. Kennan’s Mama (Sam Widger) came on in the lane to be second by a length. It was another two lengths to third place finisher Harmony Oaks Gi Gi (Mike Oosting).
“Stormies Girl can get kind of bully and headstrong, and would be a top mare if she was able to race out of a hole, said Tetrick. “However she gets really fired up and doesn’t like to sit. It would be nice to be able to rate her out of a hole, and then let her charge home, because she’s able to come a last quarter in :27 or faster.”
Stormies Girl now has $17,667 on her card for this season. The five-year-old daughter of Stand Forever lifetime earnings climbed to $154,856.
