Stormaway Wins Spring Pacing Championship

April 7, 2007

The Spring Pacing Championship--contested Saturday night at Woodbine Raceway--saw Stormaway post the second biggest upset in the history of the 20-year series. The O.S.S. graduate lit up the toteboard to the tune of $85.60 for every two dollars wagered, a price that is second to General Trull's $92.40 return in the 1992 Series final.

The Dan Megens-trainee used a 28-second final quarter to seal the deal in a time of 1:52.2. Secrets Nephew finished second with Tigerama third.

Stormaway, a four-year-old son of Northern Luck - Nice Scooters, socked away $326,406 in last year's sophomore season after going unraced as a rookie. Saturday night's victory pushed his career bankroll to $392,021. It was the second win of the season and the 15th lifetime tally for the homebred, who is owned by Dan Megens and Jan Van Nest of Hamilton, ON and Peter Caetano of Ancaster, ON.
