One of the toughest pacers to hail from a Canadian stable, Sportswriter retired in 2010 after a stellar career.  A $50,000 yearling purchase, Sportswriter was campaigned by Steve Calhoun and West Wins Stable (Casie Coleman/Ross warriner/Zoltan Kovacs) as a freshman.

At 2 he set a wrold record winning the $1 million Metro Pace in 1:49.2 and was named champion 2-year-old pacing colt after winning seven of eight starts.  At 3 he captured the North America Cup at Mohawk in 1:48.3.

Southwind Farms purchased an interest in Sportswriter at the end of his 2-year-old campaign and Australia's Peppetrree Farm purchased an interest after his 3-year-old season.  Tara Hills Stud and Warrawee Farm also purchased an interest in the young stallion. He now divides his stud duties between both the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

Sportswriter commands a stud fee of $6,000 while at Tara Hills Stud in Port Perry, Ontario.
