Eagle Luck & Armbro Deuce Take Simcoe Splits
September 9, 2006
Eagle Luck and Armbro Deuce captured their respective splits of the Simcoe Stakes for three-year-old pacing colt and geldings Saturday night at Mohawk Raceway.
Eagle Luck won in 1:50.4 for trainer Gregg McNair and driver Luc Ouellette in the first $135,002 division. Eagle Luck now has a 7-2-2 record from 17 starts in 2005 and pushed his career earnings to $337,319 for owner Frank Dettore of North Ridgeville, Ohio.
"He's not as quick as some of them getting off the gate, but he certainly is long-winded," said driver Luc Ouellette. "Around the last turn I took a hold of him a little bit, and he seemed to have plenty left."
Armbro Deuce won his $135,002 division for trainer Blair Burgess and driver George Brennan in 1:51.2. Robert Burgess, Neal Cooper, Karin Burgess and Richard Kostoff own the colt, who has a 4-6-4 record in 19 starts this season, with career earnings of $683,022.
"He hasn't gone a bad race for me yet," said Brennan. "I hope it continues. Up until the Confederation Cup, I'd never raced him on the front. But he's a versatile horse. That's a good quality for a racehorse. If I had to ask him, he had more left. He did what he had to do."
