Darlins Delight wins Silk Stockings

July 15, 2007

Darlins Delight set a new track record for aged pacing mares when she won the $201,500 Silk Stockings Final at Monticello Raceway on Sunday in 1:52.3--a new track record for aged pacing mares.

The four-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight is now a four-time winner in 2007 from nine starts. She currently sits just shy of $2 million in lifetime earnings. Jeff Stafford trains Darlins Delight for owner/breeder White Birch Farm.

Yada Yada Yada A and Stephane Bouchard, who were leaving from Post 1, were able to get the lead at the opening quarter in :27.2, but it didn't last very long.

Yannick Gingras tipped Darlins Delight out from fourth as the field made their way down the backside. Clearing to the lead in a matter of strides, her seven rivals were in for a long day.

With a half of :55.2 and 1:24.1 three-quarters, Darlins Delight paced away around the last turn, widening her lead out to five and a half-lengths at the wire.

Darlins Delight entry-mate, Kissmekissmekissme (Brennan) was second. Yada Yada Yada A stayed for third. Ontario's hopeful, Illusionist, was never able get into the race for driver Scott Coulter after leaving from the outside Post 8.

She was able to close up enough in the stretch to salvage fifth, seven and three-quarters lengths behind Darlins Delight.
