Shark Gesture in Good Shape

October 23, 2006

Tony Alagna, assistant trainer of the Erv Miller Stable housed at Classy Lane Farm in Ontario reported that Shark Gesture was in remarkably good shape this morning. The three-year-old son of Cam’s Card Shark is recovering well after his fall in Woodbine’s tenth race—the $25,000 Breeders Crown elimination for sophomore pacing colts—Saturday night.

“Of course it’s a day to day thing, but this morning I jogged him and he was sound and he seems to be no worse for the wear, it’s like nothing happened to him,” Alagna said. “He’s just come out of this experience in great shape. We took digital x-rays of him yesterday and had no problems whatsoever. He’s just amazing and is feeling really well, just his old self.”

Shark Gesture fell and unseated driver Brian Sears in the last strides of the final Breeders Crown elimination. His right front hoof struck the wheel of Total Truth, who bore in just at the wire. Shark Gesture’s immediate collapse to the track gave the horse behind him, Scootin Delight, driven by John Campbell, no time to swerve and the two collided.

Scootin Delight, a sophomore son of Bettor’s Delight, had to be euthanized at the scene as a result of his injuries. Campbell sustained a broken leg and is still hospitalized. Total Truth was placed third for interference and Shark Gesture was moved up to second in the race won by Mr. Big.
