Sears Scores In Three Big M Stakes Saturday

Brian Sears captured all three stakes finals on the Meadowlands Saturday night program, winning the Exit 16W, the Jr Trendsetter and the Aquarius.

In the $88,000 Jr Trendsetter, Sears sat patiently off the pace with heavily favored, Fox Valley Appeal, through the first three-quarters in 1:25.1 He was able to find clearance between horses as the field entered the stretch and the three-year-old Sportsmaster gelding exploded past rivals for a 1:52.3 win under wraps. It was the fourth win in five seasonal starts for the Jeff Smith trainee and boosted his career bankroll to more than $88,000 for Ribbonships of Somerset, NJ.

Sears came back in the very next race with Deliver The Goods in the $65,000 Exit 16W final. The four-year-old Richess Hanover gelding also sat off the early pace and kicked in with a huge :26.3 final quarter to win in :152. The Ken Rucker-trained pacer was notching his fourth win in six starts this year and increased his career bankroll to more than $145,000 for Niss Allen Inc. Of Fair Lawn, NJ.

Sears completed the stakes hattrick with Jennas Choice in the $79,700 Aquarius Final. He changed up tactics with Jennas Choice, putting the overwhelming favourite on the front early and then holding off a late challenge from Roddys Bags Again and Stallone. The 1:51.2 victory was the third in four tries this season for the Mark Silva-trained four-year-old Jennas Beach Boy gelding. The win boosted his lifetime earnings to more than $275,000 for Silva, C. Pattick and D. Borgo of New Jersey. Sears recently surpassed the $50 million-mark in career earnings and is once again leading the driver standings at The Big M.
