Scarlet Knight Retires
March 7, 2005
By Kimberly A. Rinker
2001 Hambletonian winner Scarlet Knight has been retired to stand stud at Erikssunds Säteri in Sweden. Now seven, Scarlet Knight (Pine Chip--Ruby Crown--Incredible Nevele) apparently experienced a problem with his left front leg after his start in the Prix d'Amerique in late January. Purchased for only $17,000 purchase at Harrisburg, Scarlet Knight earned $2.5 million for his owner-trainer-driver Stefan Melander. Scarlet Knight was the first trotter trained in Europe to win the Hambletonian. From 68 starts he won 41 races, with eight seconds, and five thirds.
