SBOANJ Negotiates With The Big M
March 15, 2007
The Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey has negotiated additional racing opportunities at The Meadowlands as a result of the reduction of one racing night for the next eight weeks. In addition, the SBOA of New Jersey was successful in obtaining a 20 percent bonus to all New Jersey-sired horses earning purse checks in “non-restrictive” overnight races. This 20 percent premium will not apply to stakes races, finals of late or early closers or races restricted to New Jersey-owned or sired that already carry a 25 percent NJOS bonus.
Under the SBOANJ agreement with the Meadowlands, the condition sheet will be revised to offer lower claiming races, down from $15,000 to a handicap $10,000 to $12,500, and provide for maiden races.
“We believe these additional racing opportunities will help the Meadowlands attract additional horses and get full fields,” said SBOANJ President Tom Luchento. “The bonus will make it more attractive for New Jersey-sired horses to enter races at the Meadowlands.”
Luchento also noted the Meadowlands has agreed to make an across-the-board purse increase shortly.
“We are making our best effort for the horsepeople in New Jersey to race at the Meadowlands and to maintain its status as the top harness racetrack in the country,” the SBOANJ President said.
