Royal Man Takes Big M Feature Saturday

February 3, 2007

Royal Man shook loose in the stretch and paced strong to the wire for a length and a half victory in the featured $29,000 four-year-old open pace on Saturday night at the Meadowlands. My Boy David finished second after a tough first-over trip. It was a length and a half back to Wonderful One in third. Royal Man paced the mile in 1:50.3.

“He raced good,” driver Yannick Gingras said. “This was a perfect example of a trip for him. He has got one real good rush. He just had to pace the last sixteenth of the mile.”

“Yannick [Gingras] drove him exactly the way he needs to be driven,” trainer John McDermott noted. “Last week, he put in a good performance but he is a one run horse. He got that tonight and it paid off.”

The four-year-old gelded son of Cambest notched his first victory in his fourth start this year and increased his lifetime earnings to $166,667 for owners Engel Stable of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, D R Van Witzenburg of Crest Hill, Illinois and Sheffield Stable of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania.

Both Royal Man and My Boy David are eligible to the Aquarius series, which begins February 10 at the Meadowlands.
