Rocknroll Hanover 2005 Horse of the Year
February 11, 2006
Rocknroll Hanover was named the 2005 Horse of the Year by the U. S. Harness Writers Association on Wednesday night, February 8 at the Harness Racing Congress in Las Vegas. Victories in the $1 Meadowlands Pace, $555,000 Breeders Crown and $500,000 SBOA/New Jersey Classic helped propel Rocknroll Hanover to $2.23 million in earnings, the third-highest seasonal bankroll in history behind Gallo Blue Chip and Cam’s Card Shark.
Also named Pacer of the Year and Three-Year-Old Colt Pacer of the Year, Rocknroll Hanover concluded his award-winning season with a record of 12 wins, four seconds and two thirds in 18 starts. A $190,000 yearling, Rocknroll Hanover was the highest purchase to earn the Horse of the Year honor.
It was the first Horse of the Year honor for Brett Pelling, the all-time money-winning trainer in the sport, and the second for Jeff Snyder who owned 1994 champion Cam’s Card Shark. Snyder shares ownership of Rocknroll Hanover with Audrey Campbell’s Lothlorien Equestrian Center and Perretti Racing. The Meadowlands is the only racetrack that can lay claim to the Horse of the Year for each of the past 29 years.
