Teague Talks about Rainbow Blue

March 27, 2006

Trainer George Teague reports that his champion mare Rainbow Blue will qualify shortly. The daughter of Artiscape has won 30 of 32 lifetime starts for $1.6 million earned.

"I trained her a mile in 2:01 recently," Teague told Meadowland's top PR man Bob "Hollywood" Heyden. "I don't want to go too much. I don't want to go overboard with her. She's doing fine-it's not the speed I'm concerned with but her conditioning. She has an advantage in that she never stopped for too long. I kept her jogging most of the time. I want to get 3-4 qualifiers for her. I figure around April 5-6th for her first one. Dover closes the 13th of April, so I'll probably qualify her at the Meadowlands a couple of times."

Now five, Rainbow Blue’s 2005 season was cut short in mid June 2005 when she suffered a tendon tear. Up to that point she had won her first four races of the year. The 2004 Horse of the Year is expected to qualify at Dover Downs in early April. After one or two qualifiers at Dover, Teague's current plans are to then qualify Rainbow Blue at the Meadowlands prior to entering her in a race.

"As for her races, I'll just have to wait and see. The Strada (April 22) might be a little tight-I'm not sure. I'm looking forward to racing her and getting back out there. Physically she's fine and all the pictures have come back clean."
