All Eyes On The Red Mile

The stars of hanress racing competed for over $8 million in purses over the oval of red clay known for 132 years as The Red Mile. Racing was Tuesday through Saturday (September 26 – October 7) with a post time of 12:30 pm, EST.
Week one featured the Bluegrass series, with two and three year old divisions of both gaits and sexes, for total purses of $2.5 million. The second week offers the $1.2 million International Stallion Stakes for the freshmen. The Fall Championship meet concludes on Saturday, October 7th with the 114th edition of the $600,000E Kentucky Futurity and the $700,000E Tattersalls Pace. Closing day will also see the sport's best older horses in the $500,000 Allerage Farms Free For All series.
The Kentucky Futurity, the middle jewel in trotting's Triple Crown, is raced in the classic heat format where a horse must win two races on the same day to be crowned as champion. The Tattersalls Pace enjoys the same respect afforded the Futurity in the harness racing community.
Standardbred yearlings will sell at public auction at the Lexington Selected Sale held at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavillion. The sale dates are Wednesday, October 4 through Saturday, October 7 at 7:30 pm, EST with a matinee session scheduled for Sunday, October 8.
The 29th annual HTA Art Auction will be conducted in the Tattersalls arena, with 270 pieces to be offered on October 6th & 7th beginning at 8:30 am, EST and concluding at noon each day. More information is available at The Red Mile website.
Pampered Princess Sets Record in Bluegrass Stake, September 27, 2006 Pampered Princess (John Campbell) paced to a world-record 1:54.4 in one of six divisions of the historic Bluegrass Stakes for two-year-old filly trotters Wednesday at The Red Mile. The clocking lowered the former mark of 1:55 set by Macaria Hanover at The Meadowlands in the fall of 2005. Sweet Alabama was second and Falls For You was third. The winner of all seven starts and over $400,000 in 2006, Pampered Princess is from the first crop of sire Andover Hall and was purchased for $240,000 as a yearling by Bob and David Anderson. She is conditioned by Jimmy Takter.
Posses The Magic won her division in 1:58.1 for driver Mike Lachance and trainer Ron Gurfein. It was her seventh win in ten outings and upped her earnings over the $350,000 mark.
Likely Volo (Chris Christoforou Jr.) won her division in 1:57 for trainer Anders Wolden, and Wishful Me (David Miller) won her Bluegrass for trainer Don Swick and his long time owner Bill Peshina, (Royal Wire Products) in a lifetime best of 1:57.
Godiva Hall captured her division in 1:57.2 for driver Dave Palone and trainer Pete Foley, who trains her for Steve & Gene Oldford and the North South Partnership #2.
Jeff Snyder's Michelles Angel captured the final division in 1:56.3 with driver Brian Sears at the lines. The Nifty Norman-trained filly now earnings well over $150,000.
Red Mile Action Thursday, September 28, 2006 A rain-coated oval in Lexington didn't deter the various winners of Thursday's stakes from enjoying their victories.
Donato Hanover scored in 1:57.4 with a 28.1 final panel in a Bluegrass divisoin under the guidance of Ron Pierce, who steered the winner for trainer Steve Elliott and owners David Scharf, the Golden Touch Stable and Steve Arnold.
Operation Lindy won the first of five $83,000 divisions of the Bluegrass two-year-old colt trot with John Campbell in the sulky in 1:58.3 . De Wayne Minor trains for Cowboyland Aalborg.
Primary AS made his first start a stakes win for owner Kittleson Racing, winning in 1:59.4 for trainer Trond Smedshammer. The trainer-driver then returned to score with Standpoint in 1:59.4 for owners Gewertz, Sampson Street, Goldstein and Trond’s American Viking Stable.
Sand Amory won for Ron Pierce in 2:00.4 in the final division. Tye Loy trains the winner for owner Bill Sanders.
Little Miss Dragon won the first of four $100,000 Bluegrass divisions for frehsman pacing fillies in 1:54.2 for John Campbell and trainer Noel Daley, who trains the daughter of Dragon Again for Adam Victor & Son.
Yankee Augusta won the second division for David Miller in 1:52.3. Dan Creighton owns and trains the daughter of Western Hanover. Brian Sears steered Trinity Island to victory in 1:54.1 for the Cuzzins Stable and trainer Steve Elliott. Sears returned to win with Al's Girl in 1:53.4 for trainer Jerry Silverman and owner Jeff Snyder.
Friday at The Red Mile Passionate Glide returned with a vengence Friday afternoon at The Red Mile in the first of three divisions of the $99,300 Bluegrass Stake for three-year-old trotting fillies. The daughter of Yankee Glide–-Miss Marita, with Ron Pierce in the sulky, won by eight lengths in 1:55. The Jimmy Takter-trainee is expected to compete in next week's Kentucky Filly Futurity for the Brittany Farms, who bred and own the career winner of $1,618,480.
Workout Doll (Muscles Yankee-Timberlassie) won the second division in 1:55.2 for driver George Brennan, who racked up four wins throughout the afternoon. Chuck Sylvester conditions the career winner of $208,143 for Peninsula Farm of Lexington, KY, John Fielding of Toronto, ON, Irving Liverman of Hampstead, QC, L And L Devisser LLC of Holland, MI.
Susies Magic (Dream Vacation–Kash Echo) stopped the timer in a career-best clocking of 1:55.3 in the third division for driver David Miller and trainer Bob Stewart. L And L Devisser of Holland, MI, William Jones of Lexington, KY, and Susan Atkins of Urbana, IL, own the career winner of $211,049.
Friday's program also featured a pair of $99,800 divisions of the Bluegrass Stake for three-year-old pacing fillies. My Little Dragon (Dragon Again – My Little Pretty) stepped to a 1:52.4 triumph in her division for driver Brian Sears and trainer Noel Daley while Designer Gal (Cambest–Art Of Design) scored for driver Andy Miller and trainer Erv Miller in 1:52.4.
