Quality Western Retires: Heads to Ohio

Quality Western, a winner of nearly $1.3 million during his career, will be formally retired Saturday, January 30 in a ceremony at the Meadowlands, after the third race on the program.

With a mark of 1:49.2 and 42 career wins to his credit, the son of Western Hanover is slated to stand his first season for Horseplex of Indiana at Autumn Lane Farm in Thornville, Ohio, for a fee of $2,500.

“He gave 110 percent every time,” said trainer Richard Johnson, Quality Western’s conditioner in recent years. “He definitely paid his dues. He enjoyed racing and did the best he could. I’ve got to believe his longevity and durability account for something.”
