Holborn Hanover, with George Brennan at the controls,  became the first sophomore pacer to beat the sub-1:50 standard as he paced to a winning 1:49.3 world and track record victory in the Progress Pace on Sunday at Dover Downs. It was the eighth edition of the prestigious event.

Metropolitan took the early lead, bringing the field to a :27 opening panel. Western Terror (Brian Sears) quickly pulled and took the lead to the :54.3 half, before being overcome by Quik Pulse Mindale (Tony Morgan) who was on top at the 1:21.3 three-quarter marker.  But Holborn Hanover was right on the leaders' heels, and rallied to the fastest clocking ever by a sophomore gelding or any three-year-old in harness racing history. Quik Pulse Mindale was second by two lengths, with Western Terror in third and Timesareachanging in fourth, with Metropolitan fifth.

Owned by John Fielding and Canamerican Capital Corporation, Holborn Hanover has now banked nearly $1 million lifetime.  The son of Cam's Card Shark was bred by Hanover Shoe Farms of Pennsylvania, and is out of the Abercombie mare Hattie.
