Ron Pierce Joins Elite Club

When Ron Pierce surpassed the $11 million mark in purses for 2004 late last month, he became only the third driver in harness racing history to reach the plateau. David Miller drove the winners of $11.5 million last year and John Campbell has topped the $11-million level on five occasions, most recently in 2002. Campbell set the sport's all-time record of $14.2 million in 2001. Pierce's previous best season came last year when he won $9.4 million. Pierce, who earlier this year was elected to the Living Hall of Fame, ranks seventh in history with $90.7 million in earnings.
