24 Horses Die in Perretti Farm Fire

Twelve mares and their foals died in a fire that destroyed a barn at Perretti Farms in Cream Ridge, New Jersey, early Friday morning. No human injuries were reported.
According to news stories, the fire was detected around 1 am, EST and all but one of the mares lost were owned by Perretti Farms, the 900-acre breeding farm founded by William Perretti in the late 1980s. The farm is home to approximately 180 mares owned by Perretti as well as boarders and six stallions--Rocknroll Hanover, Matt’s Scooter, Muscles Yankee, Red River Hanover, Revenue and Windsong’s Legacy.

Among those broodmares and their foals who perished were My Starchip [age 7, trained by Chuck Sylvester, earned $330,140], Funny Malentine [age 5, trained by Linda Toscano, earned $383,356], Clarify [age 6, trained by Doug McIntosh, earned $8,007] and Armbro Terrace [age 9, trained by Ben Wallace, earned $320,003].
