Upsetter Prevails in Overbid Final

In a three-horse photo, the outsider caught the favorites in the $118,560 Overbid Final, carded as the second race. In the end it was 15-1 longshot Easton Alliance N who made the winning move in a lifetime best of 1:51.1. Easton Alliance edged out 4-5 Loyal Opposition, the two-time Pacing Mare of the Year, and 4-1 Burning Point by a neck for her second win of the year.

“The trip worked out well but anyone has to be surprised to beat those three mares [Loyal Opposition, Burning Point and Restive Hanover], who have been at the top all winter,” said Hall of Famer John Campbell, who won the Overbid for the seventh time. “She’s a little hard to maneuver. When she comes off her cover, she gives you a good run. The trip worked out perfect, getting to follow Loyal Opposition into the stretch. She was full of pace and had a real good shot from the top of the stretch. If you don’t have to use her early, she gives you a good run.”

The five-year-old daughter Village Jasper races for Katherine Bardis of Sacramento, California. With the winner’s share of $59,280, she nearly doubled her career bankroll to $127,780. The New Zealand-bred mare arrived in the States in November and has a career record of nine wins, six seconds and three thirds from 30 starts.
