Notes From Around The Ovals...

The Meadowlands will offer Pool Two of the Kentucky Derby and Oaks Future Wagers, beginning at noon on Thursday and continuing through Sunday at 6 pm [Kentucky Derby] and 6:30 pm [Kentucky Oaks]. Each of the two Future Wager pools offer a $2 minimum wager on 24 betting interests * 23 horses rated by Churchill Downs’ oddsmaker Mike Battaglia and one for “all others.” While there is a suggested morning line, the odds are set by the wagering at the time the pool closes and offer the opportunity to lock in higher odds than would be the case on race day * the first Saturday in May for the Derby and the previous day, May 5, for the Oaks. There are no refunds even for scratched or injured horses.

There have been numerous changes to the Derby Future field since wagers on Pool One were taken January 26 to 29. Nine new names have been added: Corinthian, Great Point, Latent Heat, My Golden Song, Noonmark, Really Indian, Steppenwolfer, Strong Contender, and Sweetnorthernsaint. They displace hopefuls dropped from the roster, the foremost of which is Stevie Wonderboy, the two-year-old champion who was sidelined by injury in February. Other horses dropped from the roster for Pool Two were A.P. Warrior, Blazing Rate, Doctor Decherd, Half Ours, Henny Hughes, High Cotton, Sorcerer's Stone, and Your Tent or Mine. The final Future Wager pool will be held April 6 to 9. For more information on the Kentucky Derby/Oaks Future Wager, visit:
