Corleone Kosmos Wins the Nat Ray

Despite being parked early, Corleone Kosmos found a second
gear in the stretch and trotted off to a 1:51.2 victory in
                              the $300,000 Nat Ray Invitational.

Driver John Campbell and Corleone Kosmos were caught wide for nearly three-quarters of the mile before seizing the opportunity to drop in behind Majestic Son when the pocket sitter Jaded broke stride. Corleone Kosmos tipped out from behind the leg-weary leader and held off the late rally of Equinox BI, the Italian shipper, for a three-quarter-length win.

San Remo Kosmos the first to fire off the gate, held his ground for third

“I was actually three-wide in the first turn and had to use him to get down to two-wide at the quarter,” Campbell said. “From then on, he was first-over, which I really didn’t like but he was able to fall in behind Majestic Son around the last turn and that made all the difference. He got on the bit and was eager to pass when he got on Trevor’s back [Ritchie and Majestic Son]. He ran a very big race today, the best race of his life, I think.”

Trained by Ross Croghan, Corleone Kosmos picked up his fifth win in 10 starts and biggest paycheck this season. He has now won 12 of 30 career starts for owners Larry and Arthur Rudolph of Bohemia, New York and Bernard Owen of Long Beach, New York.
