Trotters Vie in New Jersey Sires Stakes

June 1, 2005

Ticket to Glide and Her Culese, both trained by Brett Pelling, accounted for victories in two of three $25,000 divisions of New Jersey Sires Stakes for three-year-old trotting fillies on Wednesday night at the Meadowlands. Ticket to Ride turned in a powerful stretch brush to catch Teola in the last sixteenth of a mile for a length and three-quarter victory in the second race, the first division. Must Sold Dream was third by two and a half lengths.

Ticket to Ride, driven by Cat Manzi, is a Yankee Glide filly who won five of seven starts at two but broke stride in her 2005 debut, the Lady Suffolk at Freehold. She races for Paul Kinnear of Staten Island, New York and Douglas Hutchins of Lyman, Maine. Ticket to Ride trotted the fastest of the three divisions, 1:55.3, in her second start of the year.

Her Culese caught 4-5 Flawless Bluestone in the final stride for a nose victory in the fifth race, the third division. Just Like Dream was third, a half-length back. The mile was timed in 1:56.2.

Her Culese, winner of two straight, was driven to victory Ron Pierce. The Muscles Yankee filly now has four wins in five career starts for the ownership of David McDuffee of Nashua, New Hampshire; Irving Liverman of Hampstead, Quebec and John Fielding of Toronto, Ontario.

Motivational, owned and trained by Kathleen LaMontagne of Bordentown, New Jersey, won the second division, carded as the third race, by a length and a half over Joyful Sakra. Soutaine Hanover was third by three and three-quarter lengths. George Brennan was in the sulky for the wire-to-wire victory in 1:56 flat, Motivational's lifetime best time and ninth win in 14 career starts. At two, she won eight of 12, including the $79,000 Harold Dancer at Freehold.
