N.J. Account Wagering Offers First Derby Preps Handicapping Challenge
March 6, 2005
A trio of Kentucky Derby prep races will serve as the cornerstone of the inaugural 4NJBETS Derby Preps Handicapping Challenge [DPHC] on April 9 and 16. An est. $80,000 in prize money [based on 400 contestants] will be distributed, with $40,000 to the winner. The cost to participate is $350, which includes a $200 non-refundable entry fee and $150 Challenge Account betting stake.
The contest spans two dates and three tracks - Aqueduct, Keeneland and Oaklawn Park -- and requires wagers on a trio of three-year-old stakes that are preps for the Kentucky Derby - the Wood Memorial, the Toyota Blue Grass and Arkansas Derby.
The Derby Preps Handicapping Challenge is restricted to those registered with New Jersey Account Wagering [NJAW], the betting service available to New Jersey residents only, which permits betting online, through an automated phone system [debuting later this month] and with self-service tote terminals at the Meadowlands, Monmouth Park and Freehold Raceway.
To participate in the contest, each participant must open both an NJAW account and a separate DPHC account by downloading the application at www.4njbets.com or picking up the form at any of the three racetracks. Registration for the DPHC closes at 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 26. Only one entry per NJAW account is permitted, with the set at 400 players. Details are available at www.4njbets.com.
The Challenge format is win, place and show wagering only, minimum bet of $10, with no limit. You may bet more than one horse in a race but each wager must be at least $10. Wagering on Day 1 of the Challenge [April 9] requires betting at least five individual races only on the card from Aqueduct. The Wood Memorial must be among the wagers. In order to continue to Day 2 [April 16], the balance in your Challenge account must be in the top 50 percent [including ties] of the starting field of the first Challenge Day and must be at least $10. Wagering on Day 2 is on Keeneland and Oaklawn Park only and requires that a minimum of 10 races be bet, including the Toyota Blue Grass and the Arkansas Derby.
The Derby Prep Handicapping Challenge entry form and fees may returned to the Meadowlands [Guest Service Central, Paddock Level, Monmouth Park [Second Floor Clubhouse Teletheater], Freehold Raceway [Patron Services Office] or mailed to the Meadowlands Racetrack, 50 Route 120, East Rutherford, NJ 07073, Attention: New Jersey Account Wagering, DPHC.
