NH Votes To Ban Dog Racing

January 14, 2010

The New Hampshire House voted Wednesday to ban live dog racing in the Granite State. The state's only two live dog racing tracks, Seabrook and Belmont, both suspended live racing last summer because simulcast dog and horse racing from out of state was more profitable than hosting live races.

The House Local and Regulated Revenues committee said the state spends more regulating live racing than it collects in revenue from the races themselves. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Mary Cooney, D-Plymouth, which still allows for simulcasts of dog and horse racing at the tracks, now goes to the Senate.
