Did You Know That... Camluck's offspring earned more than those of any other stallion in 2005---$12.4 million to be exact, besting Western Hanover by half a million last year, with Artsplace third. Western Hanover was the sport’s leading sire last year in 2004. Camluck was also the leading sire in 2001. Artsplace has dominated the sires list since 1996, reigning six times as the sport’s leading sire.
Camluck is a 19-year-old son of Cam Fella who has sired the winners of over $86 million. His best performers include Burning Point, Invitro, Lady Graceful, D M Dillinger, Casimir Camotion, Northern Luck, and Intrepid Seelster.
In 2005 Camluck bred 87 mares at his home at Seelster Farm in Ontario. He is owned by the New Destiny Stable of Windsor and Al McIntosh Holdings, Inc. of Leamington and was trained throughout his career by Hall of Famer Bob McIntosh.
Big M on Fire in 2005 Wagering at the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park exceeded $1.3 billion in 2005. The total of $1.345 billion includes on-track wagering at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford and Monmouth Park in Oceanport as well as the amount handled at other sites on the two tracks’ races. The Meadowlands continues to rank as the highest grossing pari-mutuel track in North America with a 2005 total of $485 million bet at the track on its live and incoming simulcast signals.
Slots in Florida Florida Gov. Jeb Bush signed legislation Wednesday permitting Broward County’s four pari-mutuel facilities, including Pompano Park, to each install 1,500 slot machines. Bush said he had a "constitutional duty" to implement the voter-approved legislation. Broward County voters approved slots in a referendum last year. The state will receive 50 percent of slots profits, one of the highest tax rates nationally. In addition to Pompano Park, Dania Jai-Alai, Hollywood Greyhound Track & Gulfstream Park can now lawfully install machines.
