Final Breeders Crown Elims Contested
Sixty-five of harness racing’s top three-year-olds and 10 of the sport’s classiest pacing mares put on a show Saturday night at Woodbine Racetrack while contesting nine Breeders Crown eliminations. The elimination winners earned the right to select their post positions for their respective finals.

Colt Pace
Westwardho Hanover, driven by Dave Palone, sprung a 5-1 upset in the first $25,407 elim for three-year-old colt pacers, fending off a closing Alsace Hanover and a resurgent Roll With Joe to win by a head in 1:49.4. Westwardho Hanover
Trained by Ron Burke, who also scored an upset in the three-year-old filly pace elim with Rocklamation (below)earlier on the card, Westwardho Hanover (above) moved to challenge the pacesetting even money choice, Roll With Joe, who was parked before getting to the half in 53.4.

Taking over turning for home, Westwardho Hanover, a son of Dragon Again, reached three-quarters in 1:21.4, but was all out to first hold off another challenge from Roll With Joe on the inside, then Alsace Hanover, the 2-1 second choice, who came from out of the clouds down the middle of the track to just miss.
Rocklamation
In taking a career mark, Westwardho Hanover notched his third win in 13 starts this year. He paid $13.90 to win.

Betterthancheddar, expertly handled by George Brennan, hauled down Hugadragon near the wire to win the second elim by three-quarters of a length in 1:49.1, with odds-on Big Bad John a distant third.

Trained by Casie Coleman, Betterthancheddar, a son of champion Bettors Delight, had taken the field through an opening quarter in 26.4, before yielding to Hugadragon, who reached the half in 55.2 and still lead after three-quarters in 1:22.1.

But Brennan was able to slip Betterthancheddar out of the pocket in
mid-stretch and he kicked into gear, taking his seventh win in 15 starts
this year after being unraced at two.

Sent postward a 6-1 outsider, Betterthancheddar eclipsed his previous career mark of 1:49.2, set at Pocono Downs on September 10 when winning the Cane Pane. Betterthancheddar paid $14.60 to win.

The $500,000 Three-Year-Old Colt Pace, along with the $600,000 Open Trot, will be drawn at a press conference at WEGZ Stadium Bar in Vaughan, Ontario on Tuesday, October 25.

Colt Trot
Odds-on Chapter Seven, with Tim Tetrick at the controls, took the first $25,407 elimination for three-year-old colt trotters, powering past Daylon Magician in the closing strides to post a one and a half length triumph in 1:53.2. Pacesetter Dejarmbro faded slightly to finish third.
Chapter Seven
Dejarmbro took the field through an opening quarter in 28 seconds flat and the half in :57.3, before being challenged by the 9-5 second choice, Daylon Magician, winner of the $1 million Canadian Trotting Classic last month at Mohawk. The pair swept into the stretch, passing the three-quarters in 1:26.1, as the battle to the wire commenced.

However, Chapter Seven, in third throughout, was tipped out in mid-stretch and closed strongly for the win.

A son of Windsongs Legacy, Chapter Seven, trained by Linda Toscano, won seven of his eight starts last year. It was his third win in only seven outings this year. This summer, he’d finished second in a Hambletonian elim, then was fourth in the final, before being laid up for a month. Chapter Seven paid $3.70 to win.

Heavily-favoured Manofmanymissions and driver Dave Miller proved an easy winner of the second elim, coasting to the wire three lengths in front of longshots Mr Web Page, at 46-1 and Luckycharm Hanover, at 14-1, in 1:54.
Manofmanymissions
Taking over from Big Rigs, after the half was reached in 57.4, Manofmanymissions opened several lengths on the field turning for home. Then, when Big Rigs made a break, the contest was all but over.

Hambletonian winner Broad Bahn made a break at the start, but rallied to finish fifth and qualify for next Saturday’s final.

It was the third win in a row for Manofmanymissions, a son of Yankee Glide. He’d entered his elim off three heats in the Kentucky Futurity, on October 2 at Lexington, making a break in the first, winning the second, then taking the third and final heat over Dejarmbro.

Last year, Manofmanymissions won the Breeders Crown Two-Year-Old Colt Trot at Pocono Downs. Manofmanymissions paid $3 to win. The top five finishers from each elimination advanced to the $610,000 Crown final.

Filly Trot
The Noel Daley-trained Cedar Dove set a track record for three-year-old trotting fillies with a 1:53.2 effort in her $25,407 elimination. Cedar Dove lowered Housethattruthbuilt’s 2004 track record by one fifth of a second.
Cedar Dove
Jezzy (Tim Tetrick) was the early leader, clocking the opening panel in :27.4, but driver Ron Pierce and Cedar Dove launched a first-over attack from third and cleared to the front before the mid-way point in :57.3.

The even-money favourite amped up her speed, hitting the three quarters in 1:25.2. Cedar Dove notched her fifth victory of the season with the two and three quarter length score over Jezzy. Lady Andover (John Campbell) finished third.

The daughter of Andover Hall-Pine For Her has a lifetime record of 6-5-2 in 20 starts and career earnings of $437,865 for New York’s Adam Victor And Son Stble and Toronto’s John Fielding. Cedar Dove paid $4.20 to win.

Iron Lady notched her seventh victory of the season in the second Crown elimination for trainer Fredrik Persson. Magic Wheel (Joe Hudon) was the tempo-setter, cutting the mile thought splits of :28, :58.2 and 1:26.4.

It was a duel in the stretch as the 7-5 favourite, Hey Mister, came first-up to take command, but Iron Lady (Ron Pierce) flew up the rail to score the victory by a head in 1:55.4. Cleopatre Duharah (Yannick Gingras) got up for third.

The daughter of Taurus Dream-Ita Di Jesolo has a lifetime record of 9-1-2 in 25 starts and career earnings of $190,267 for owners Reve Avec Moi Dreamwithme of Grand Valley, Ont. and Jerry and Theresa Silva of Long Beach, NY.

Iron Lady paid $6.40 to win as the second choice. The top five finishers from each elimination advanced to the $500,000 Crown final.

Filly Pace
A track and Canadian record for three-year-old pacing fillies were set when Drop The Ball delivered as the heavy favourite in her Crown elimination.
Drop The Ball
With a 1:49 effort, the Tony O’Sullivan pupil also took a new lifetime mark while winning her fourth race of the season.

Idyllic (Dave Miller) clocked the :27-second first quarter and held the lead past the half in :55.1 before driver Yannick Gingras took Drop The Ball to the front.

Drop The Ball hit the three quarter pole in 1:22 and opened up by three and a quarter lengths to score the victory. Monkey On My Wheel (Jody Jamieson) rallied for second and Swinging Beauty (Doug McNair) got up for third.

The daughter of Western Terror-Mattcheck Girl has a lifetime record of 8-3-1 in 19 starts and career earnings of $389,514 for Florida’s Let It Ride Stables Inc, Dana Parham and Robert Cooper Stables LLC. Drop The Ball paid $3.60 to win.

Rocklamation pulled off the 5-1 upset in the second elimination for trainer Ron Burke and driver Brian Sears. The sophomore filly, who scored her fourth victory of the year, sat behind fractions of :26.1, :54.4 and 1:23.2.

Krispy Apple (Tim Tetrick), who took over from the favourite See You At Peelers (Marcus Johansson) at the top of the stretch, was in front until Rocklamation paced on by the second choice in deep stretch to win by one and a half lengths in 1:50.4. Foxy Lady (Yannick Gingras) finished third.

The daughter of Rocknroll Hanover-Art Sale has a lifetime record of 5-5-4 in 30 starts and career earnings of $280,531 for owner Stable 45 of Boynton Beach, FL. Rocklamation paid $13.80 to win. The top five finishers from each elimination advanced to the $500,000 Crown final.

Open Mare Pace
Anndrovette delivered as the 6-5 favourite in the single $40,652 Open Mares elimination. The Mark Kesmodel trainee made her 10th trip to the winner’s circle with Tim Tetrick in the bike.
Androvette
Rock N Soul (Yannick Gingras) showed early speed with a :26.1 first quarter, but Anndrovette was on the move from fourth and was quick to make the lead.

The four-year-old mare held command through fractions of :55.2 and 1:23.1 before scoring the 1:50.2 triumph, two and a half lengths ahead of Maureen Rocks (Scott Zeron). On The Glass (Jody Jamieson) rounded out the triactor.

The daughter of Riverboat King-Easy Miss has a lifetime record of 20-3-6 in 41 starts and boasts career earnings of $1,174,013 for New Jersey owners Jeffrey Bamond and Joseph Davino. Anndrovette paid $4.50 to win.

The top eight finishers from the single elimination advanced to the $300,000 final. Both Laughandbehappy and Ticket To Rock received byes to the rich final.
