My Little Dragon Snaps Stylish Streak

February 16, 2008

Stylish Solution's 13-race streak came to an end when My Little Dragon coasted to victory in the $40,000 second round of the Cape & Cutter Series on Friday night at the Meadowlands. My Little Dragon, with Ron Pierce at the lines, seized the lead from Stylish Solution in a :55 half and held off the pocket-sitting favorite for a half-length tally in 1:52. Street Dancer closed along the inside to finish third. My Little Dragon paid $7.60 to win the evening's second race.

Adam Victor & Son Stable's My Little Dragon banked more than $1.3 million racing at ages two and three. She was voted the 2005 Two-Year-Old Filly Pacer of the Year. However, the Noel Daley trainee made just nine starts as a 4-year-old last season.

"She was never quite the entire year [in 2007]," said assistant trainer Mike Vanderkemp. "At the end of September, she had throat surgery. She's come back good. It was a very good race. We didn't want Stylish Solution to get an easy half. She hasn't done much training yet, but she will be trained up for next week's final."

In the second Cape & Cutter division, Western Graduate nipped Little Miss Dragon by a nose in 1:51.1. Ulrica Bromac flew home in 26.4 to finish third.

Yannick Gingras steered the mare to her second win five starts this season for owner Howard Schneidler and trainer Eric Abbatiello.

"I talked to Eric Abbatiello today and he said he changed her shoes behind and she trained real good this week," Gingras said. " I didn't see any inside leavers on paper, so I thought I'd take a chance. I rolled her to the quarter. I didn't want anyone else coming other than Little Miss Dragon. I followed her in the stretch, moved late because I know she'll take you where you want to go and just got up in time."

The $88,700 Cape & Cutter Final is next Friday, February 22.
