Cabrini Hanover & Just Wait Kate Take Mistletoe Shalee Elims at The Big M
July 29, 2005
Cabrini Hanover and Just Wait Kate won their $25,000 elims and earned spots in the $357,000 Mistletoe Shalee Final, one of the stakes on the undercard of the $1.5 million Hambletonian on August 6 at the Meadowlands.
In the first division, the fifth race, Cabrini Hanover overcame a backstretch miscue by Dreams Are Great who broke in front broke in front of her before the half. She circled back into contention and took the lead in mid-stretch to win by a length and a half over Ifyoucouldcwhati C Maytime Hall was third by four and a quarter lengths. Armbro Cinnamon and Marnie Hall also advance to the final. Cabrini Hanover paced the mile in 1:52.3.
"She's had to overcome road trouble her last few starts," said winning driver Brian Sears. "When the filly broke in front of me, she had every reason to give up, and she overcame it. She came to a stop and kept going. That shows a lot of class."
"She's pure class," said trainer Jimmy Takter. "She's been phenomenal."
Cabrini Hanover scored her third straight win and her career earnings are closing in on $500,000 for Bob Anderson of St. Thomas Ontario and David Willmot of King City, Ontario.
In the sixth race, the second division, Just Wait Kate cruised to a three and a quarter length victory over Felicia Scott in 1:52 flat. Maytime Hall was third by three and three-quarter lengths. Chotat Milk and Roller Cam gained the final two spots.
"We had the rail and I just let her drift out of there," said Ron Pierce, the winning driver behind Just Wait Kate. "I waited until things settled down. She paced well within herself. She's special."
Just Wait Kate, owned and bred by Arlene and Jules Siegel of New Hope, Pennsylvania, recorded her fifth win in six starts this year.
"The breeding gets a lot of the credit," acknowledged trainer Travis Alexander. "She's a spectacular filly. She's very easy on herself and doesn't require any training. She impressed me very much. She had a bruised foot and didn't jog all week. I didn't expect her to be this good tonight."
Cabrini Hanover had first choice and opted for post two. Just Wait Kate will have the rail in the Mistletoe Shalee Final.
