Rocknroll Hanover wins North America Cup Rocknroll Hanover, sent off as the 3-5 favourite, posted an amazing performance in front of a screaming crowd at Woodbine to capture Saturday night's $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup. In rein to Brian Sears, the son of Western Ideal-Rich N Elegant got to the front early on and dominated, cutting fractions of :25.4, :54.3 and 1:23.4 to win the 22nd North America Cup in a lifetime mark-equalling 1:49.4. Stonebridge Regal chased Rocknroll Hanover in the stretch but just couldn’t catch the superstar pacer and settled for second by a length. Runover Feeling was third by five and a half lengths and Cams Fool was fourth.
Trained by the now three-time N.A. Cup winner Brett Pelling, Rocknroll Hanover is unbeaten in five starts this year and will head to the Meadowlands Pace with millionaire status for owners Jeffrey Snyder of New York and Lothlorien Equestrian Centre of Mississauga, Ontario.
Classic Photo takes $342,100 Goodtimes Stakes When 1-5 favourite Great George Two went off stride at the start, the $342,100 Goodtimes Stakes Final was wide-open and Classic Photo took advantage of the opportunity, posting a 1:53.1 stakes record victory. With driver Ron Pierce at the lines, the son of S Js Photo-Classic Winner sat in second through the first quarter of :27 and made a move from third on his way to the final turn, taking a late stretch lead over Ro Lo for the win in a lifetime best 1:53.1. Ro Lo was second and Stonebridge Diablo was third. Classic Photo, trained by Ervin Miller, now has two wins in five starts this year for H W Wright, Mystical Marker Farms, and Jack and Peggy Hood.
Blur wins $565,600 Elegantimage Stakes Trainer Trond Smedshammer piloted Blur to victory in tonight’s $565,600 Elegantimage Stakes Final at Woodbine Racetrack. The sophomore daughter of Muscles Yankee-Blue Ridge Girl was in first by the half and didn’t look back, taking a one length victory in 1:55.4 over Magenta Hall. Jersey Gal was third. Blur is now perfect in three starts this year for Jason and Amanda Goldstein of Hewlett Harbor, New York.
