Sam McKee Honored
January 4, 2006
Sam McKee, producer of Racing from the Meadowlands on Fox Sports Net New York, has been selected as the broadcast award division winner of the 2005 John Hervey Award. McKee and the Big M TV crew won the Broadcasters Award for a feature on the 2005 Hambletonian at the Meadowlands.
"I was impressed with this feature from the first second of video," said Neal Baker of NBA-TV, who judged the competition. "It was clear with the 'opening' presented from a movie theatre setting that a lot of creativity went into the production of the feature. The piece stood out primarily because of the use of animation that dissolved into the sound bites; the dramatic music 'beds' and the selection of the Hambletonian races that were used. It was a crisp, no-nonsense look at harness racing's premier event."
Other 2005 Hervey winners were Bob Summers, for newspaper writing in the Buffalo News, and Chris Wittstruck, for magazine writing in Hoof Beats. Dave Witten, for his Little Brown Jug photo in the Horseman & Fair World, was awarded first prize in the 2005 Smallsreed Award competition. The winners will be honored at the Night of Stars banquet on Feb 8, 2006 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, during the Racing Congress.
