New Track Record at Maywood

September 8, 2006

Hall of Famer Dave Magee piloted Westward Vision to a new Maywood Park track record of 1:50.2 on Friday night, in that half-mile oval's featured $12,100 conditioned Sixth Race pace. THe seven-year-old son of Western Hanover--Vesta Blue Chip--On The Road Again is trained by Darcy Pletcher for owners Par IV Stables, Terry Ryan, Dennis Hauck and Ron Latham of Illnois. Westward Vision took the lead early to a :26.4 first quarter and followed that up with a :54.4 half and a 1:22.3 three-quarter clocking. He was an easy winner by a length and three-quarters as Magee sat confidently with his whip tucked under his arm.

"I didnt' know what the track record was at the time but I thought we were going a pretty good clip out there," Magee said. "This horse is just great--he's big and solid and very nice to drive and he gets around Maywood just as easily as he does Balmoral."

Westward Vision added $6,050 to his already hefty lifetime bank account of $250,267. He now has 11 wins in 28 starts this season and nearly $100,000 in seasonal earnings. The former Maywood Park track record was held by Fox Valley Gallant, set on October 22, 2004, of 1:50.3. That is also the 3-year-old colt record for pacers, while the aged gelding record at Maywood was 1:51, set by Michael's Western on April 9, 2004.
