Fox Valley Appeal Wins Opening Round Fox Valley Appeal extended his winning streak to five with a victory in the second of three $16,000 divisions of the Matt’s Scooter Series at the Meadowlands. Fox Valley Appeal, one of driver Brian Sears’s five winners on the night, kicked off cover at the top of the stretch and easily moved to the lead, winning by a length and a half over Ivegotwhatuneed in 1:53.4 for the mile. Delray was third by two and a quarter lengths.
A three-year-old gelded son of Sportsmaster, Fox Valley Appeal swept the Junior Trendsetter last month and now has 10 wins in 15 career starts. The Jeff Smith trainee races for Ribbonships of Somerset, New Jersey.
In the first division of the three-week Matt’s Scooter for three-year-old pacers, Royal Man sprinted to the a three and a quarter length tally in 1:53.1 over Pownal Bay Matt and Fox Valley Bigshot. Royal Man, driven by David Miller and trained by co-owner Ken Rucker, posted his first career victory in his sixth start.
In the third division Bono Bests rallied for a three-quarters of a length victory over Menno Boy in a career best of 1:52 flat. Fox Valley Cruiser was third.Bono Bests, driven by David Miller and trained by Randy Beekman, won the Snowshoe and Count B Series at Woodbine this winter and reached the winner’s circle in five of seven starts. Lifetime, the Pro Bono Best, owned by Ivan Sugg and Blue Chip Partners, has nine wins in 13 tries.
Round two of the Matt’s Scooter Series is next Friday with the $106,100 final on March 24.
