Sir Perseverence Wins $66,337 Matron Elim at Dover Downs

Sir Perseverence trots out for driver George Brennan to win
the $66,337 Matron Elim Wednesday night at Dover Downs.


Sir Perseverance, trained by Brett Pelling, is a homebred owned by Al Libfeld, Marv Katz and Sam Goldband of Toronto, Ont. The 1:54.4 time is a track record for a sophomore gelding trotter. The win was Sir Perseverance's second of the season and he now has $400,901 in seasonal earnings and $464,676 in his career bank account. The top eight finishers return for the $199,013 final on Wednesday, December 14 at Dover Downs.

Belovedangel & Born Storyteller take Matron Elims

Breeders Crown winner Belovedangel and 20-1 longshot Born Storyteller won the two $30,523 Matron Stakes Three-Year-Old Filly Pace elimination divisions on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Dover Downs. Belovedangel was timed in 1:52.4 in the first of two Matron Stakes elims for 3-year-old filly pacers.

Belovedangel bested rival Cabrini Hanover (Brian Sears) with West End (George Brennan) third and Digga Digga (Pat Berry) fourth.

Belovedangel is owned by John Fielding and Robert McIntosh Stables, of Ontario, and Irving Liverman of Quebec. This year the filly has won the $130,500 Courageous Lady, she was second in the Cinderella at Maywood Park, and then won the $500,000 Breeders Crown in her last start for Hall of Fame trainer Bob McIntosh.

Born Storyteller, a Badlands Hanover filly, pulled a 20-1 upset in the second $30,562 elim. The Kelvin Harrison was timed in 1:53.3 victory with Jonathan Roberts at the controls for owner Ron Mario of Potomac, Md. Maytime Hall (Ron Pierce) held on for second, with Fox Valley Zena (Andy Miller) third, placed fourth, with Modern Medicine (Brian Sears) moved up to third. The first four finishers from each group return for next week's $183,375 Matron Final.
