Maple Leaf Trot Field Set

A field of 10 horses entered the Maple Leaf Trot, meaning eliminations will not be necessary this weekend at Mohawk Racetrack in Ontario.

The field includes Breeders Crown Trot winner Equinox Bi and runner-up Corleone Kosmos, who went off stride just before the finish line while on the lead in the race. Also entered is Sand Vic, who was fourth in last year’s Maple Leaf Trot, making him the highest returning finisher. Peaceful Way, who won the race last year, was retired last month. Rounding out the field are Abbey Road C, Giant Diablo, Going Kronos, Reve D Amerik, Shakin Willow, Speed Bomb and Vivid Photo.

Vivid Photo was the 2005 Hambletonian winner and finished third in last weekend’s Breeders Crown Trot. Going Kronos was highly regard in Europe following a strong 3-year-old campaign, but has not fulfilled expectations, according to reports, with six wins in a dozen races this season. He is coming off a second-place finish in the Sundsvall Open Trot, which temporarily led to trainer-driver Lutfi Kolgjini questioning whether to enter the Maple Leaf.
