Manzi Named Driver of the Year by USHWA

December 28, 2005

Hall of Fame driver Cat Manzi, who is sure to lead North America in victories this year, has been selected as Driver of the Year by the U.S. Harness Writers Association. The 55-year-young Manzi was the leading driver at Freehold Raceway in 2005, and this will be the first time for him to lead all American & Canadian drivers (he has three second place finishes in the annual win lists), and also the first time he has won over 700 races in a season.

Cat is second in the all-time North American standings with 11,433 victories, behind only Herve Filion. Horses Manzi drove have earned $8,568,390 in 2005, raising his career total over $110 million - a figure which places him behind only John Campbell and Mike Lachance. Manzi will be honored at the Night of Stars banquet on Wednesday, February 8, during the Harness Racing Congress at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
